2010 Ezmie's Christmas Stocking Pattern © - by Sue Scott from www.handknitchums.co.uk
You can use this pattern for personal use, you can also use it on your own website as long as you include a link to www.handknitchums.co.uk .
This can be knit with any thickness of yarn, as long as you use needles that are the correct size for the yarn. It usually states the appropriate size of needles on the yarn’s band.
I used Double Knitting (DK) yarn (8 ply in Australia) with size 4mm (old size UK 8) needles & old UK size 10 needles for the loop. I used Dark Red, White & Dark Green. Allow 100g of white and 50g of each of the other colours although you wont need it all.
If you want to put wording on the sock, you will need to work it out before you start. The wording is knitted upside down, as the sock is knitted from top to bottom. See the chart at the end of the pattern.

Row 1: (K2 P2) to end Continue in this double rib for 8 rows.

Row 12 Start your chart on this row because it is easier to count back to get the top of the ’ in the right place.
Make sure you twist your yarn at the back as you change colours to avoid holes, try not to twist too tightly.

Shape the foot section: Row 69: K1R, K63W, CO1G Row 70: PFBG, P62 W, P2R Row 71: K3R, K61W, K2G, KFBG Continue in this manner until you have 20 Red stitches and 20 Green stitches either side of the White.
SS 8 rows keeping the 20 stitches of Red and Green either side of the White.
Continuing in Stocking Stitch and keeping the colours going, decrease 1stitch at each end on the next and every following alternate row (ie every knit row) until you have 15 stitches of Red and Green either side of the White.

To Complete
With right sides facing, sew both sides together then turn right side out.
For Loop Using size 10 needles and red, cast on 6 stitches and knitting every row make a length of knitting that when placed either side of the red section at the sewn section at the top of the stocking, has sufficient left for the size of loop you want then cast off.
By sewing the loop from where the red meets the white to the top, on either side of the inside back seam (heel side), you ensure you’re your stocking will be able to cope with the weight of being hung.
